NCIS Season 12

The show remains fresh and topical after all these years. The characters have never been cut-out figures but have lives outside their workplace which helps make them feel like real people to us. There is violence but rarely gratuitous. The cases though episodic in nature aren’t always neatly wrapped in one 45 minute show. On DVD shows can vary in length. There is a story arc that runs through the entire series.

This Season has a killer cliffhanger.

ex machina

This is one of those movies that critics tend to rave about but leaves me wandering what all the fuss was about. The word “fuck” is thrown around repeatedly adding nothing to the discourse but making the dialogue crude. The fact that Caleb is being manipulated and under 24 hour surveillance leaves the viewer with a sense of uneasiness and discomfort. Most disturbing is the fact that the robot builder uses humans with the same contempt and callousness he seems to have for his AI inventions. There is no real sense of bonding or love for his inventions. He uses people and machine with the same lack of consideration.

Paradise

The transfer is good but this is a bare-bones version. Someone created a dozen bookmarks for scene selection, the only other option is play.

The movie itself is still priceless. Unfortunately the movie itself does not echo real life and the Hollywood Romance between Johnson and Griffith ended in divorce like so many others. The stars of course are a pint-sized Elijah Wood and Thora Birch as the bored out of her tree mischievous small-town tomboy who makes Williard's eyes pop when she appears in a dress.

Trouble in Paradise?

Falling Skies--Final Season

The wrap up season. The disasters come thick and fast. The body count continues to rise. In one episode the group encounters a Salem Witch Hunt experience that is tearing an allied division apart. Knowing the series was going to end we are taken toward an obvious resolution.

We have watched the younger Mason boys grow up on set. Drew Roy playing a teenager in his thirties is a feat of acting. Noah Wyle is barely recognizable as the insecure young doctor who played on ER. As he has quipped being an Executive Producer Wile felt secure that he would survive the series.

Insurgent: The Movie Version

Watched because I've read the four books in the series, liked Theo James in Divergent, and probably due to poor reviews the disk is cheap. Took a break after the first half. The production team obviously decided to concentrate on violence rather than the relationship between Four and Tris therefore losing the humanity inherent in the story.

The script writers have altered the storyline so much that anyone who read the books may recognize the characters but not the plot. This movie may be inspired by, or based on the book but this is not Insurgent. I don’t expect to see episode 3 or based on this travesty won’t bother to watch it if it gets made.
